OnLive Wants Its Tech On Next Xbox, PlayStation
With the next generation of consoles fast approaching (at least according to the rumors), many are thinking about how the next round of consoles will improve over the current one. After all, each generation should aim to make gamers’ experience a little easier, and one of the ways platform holders could potentially do this is through cloud-based gaming.

Cloud-based gaming is still a relatively new idea, but one that OnLive has been trying to perfect for the last year and a half. When the new console generation arrives, OnLive UK head Bruce Grove hopes to see the company’s tech on the next Xbox and PlayStation, explaining to Eurogamer that he thinks Microsoft and Sony will both look to include tech similar to OnLive’s on their next home consoles:
If they decide they want to use our technology, that would be a great discussion because we’ve already got the infrastructure. We know how to do it. There are a lot of things we could bring to the table and they could bring to the table. It would certainly be a discussion we would love to have. It would be very interesting.
Grove went on to say that people at OnLive have been talking with Sony and Microsoft, and that he’s positive that Microsoft and Sony will opt for some sort of hybrid console in the next generation. That is to say, Grove thinks that the next Xbox and PlayStation will make use of physical, digital, and cloud-based games, a notion that some analysts agree with.

Even though we’re still probably quite a ways away from the next console generation, seeing some sort of cloud-based system on the next consoles definitely isn’t out of the question. The real question, however, is whether Microsoft and Sony will go with a third party service like OnLive or if they’d develop cloud-based services of their own, a decision that will cost a lot of money and manpower.
What do you guys think? Will we see some kind of cloud-based gaming service on the next Xbox and PlayStation? If we do, do you think Microsoft and Sony will take OnLive up on its offer? Head down to comments section to give us your take!
