Epic's New Game Will Be 'Radically Different'
We’re just a few days away from the Spike Video Game Awards, which means we’re just a few days away from the announcement of Epic Games’ latest IP – an announcement that promises to be one of the show’s biggest. With Epic focusing the majority of its manpower on Gears of War for the better part of the last decade, many people are wondering what’s next for the studio.

While we’ll have to wait until Saturday to find out just what, exactly, this new project is, Epic president Mike Capps gave us a taste of what we can expect, telling GamesIndustry.biz that this new IP will be “radically different” from what they’ve done in the past:
It’s something radically different for us. New IP, new game. We’re not really talking much about platform or anything like that, but I mentioned at GDCE Europe and my keynote there that we were working on a lot of new projects, and it’s been really refreshing to the team to try some new things.
We love Gears, it was a great trilogy, we’ve gotten a lot of great compliments and a lot of great fans, and we’re still supporting Gears 3 very strongly, but I’ve got guys that have been on it since 2001, and some of them need a break and to try something new.
Capps went onto say that many of the employees at the studio are actually pretty nervous for the reveal – at the same time, Capps doesn’t want people to shrug off this new IP as just another Epic game, but he doesn’t want people to think that this new IP is lacking the Epic touch either.
Since no one has any clue what Epic will be revealing at the VGAs, all I can say at this point is that I hope the announcement goes well for Capps and the team at Epic. Head down to the comments section to tell us what you think is next for Epic, and keep it tuned right here to TFTS – we’ll have all the information about Epic’s announcement after Cliffy B takes the stage at the Spike VGAs!
