Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Now Available With C Spire

C Spire, the wireless carrier formerly known as Cellular South has officially announced their latest Android offering — the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. And the good news for those looking for a new handset with C Spire, the Xperia Play is available for sale as of today December 6th.

That being said, those who follow mobile news will likely recognize the handset. In other words, this is a new release with C Spire, not a new release in general. But that little bit aside, the Xperia Play does come with a seemingly fair price given the features and specs. The handset is priced at $49.99, though, just to clarify that comes after a $50 mail-in rebate and along with a two-year agreement.

And given the Xperia Play is also known (unofficially) as the PlayStation phone, those who make the purchase can expect to do some gaming. Of course, the handset comes with the slide-out PlayStation like game controls. And in addition, the Xperia Play will ship with a total of 12 games.

More specifically, the handset will ship with seven games pre-loaded and then allow those who buy the handset to download an additional five games. The seven pre-loaded titles will include Madden NFL 11 (EA Sports), Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior (Digital Legends), Asphalt 6:Adrenaline (Gameloft), The Sims 3 (EA), Star Battalion (Gameloft), Crash Bandicoot (Sony PlayStation) and Tetris.

The additional five games must be downloaded before January 15th and include the following — Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Need for Speed Shift, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Dead Space and FIFA 12.

Otherwise, as we have seen with the Xperia Play in the past, the features include Android 2.3 Gingerbread along with a 4 inch (480 x 854) touchscreen display, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with Adreno 205 GPU, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, VGA quality front-facing camera and a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with auto-focus and a dual-LED flash.
