Bethesda: PS3 Skyrim Issues Won't Be Fixed In Update 1.3

Bethesda Has Fixes In Store For Skyrim PS3 Save Issue, But The Fixes Won't Be Present In Update 1.3

Make no mistake, Skyrim is one of the best games of the year. Skyrim‘s release was met with many eager fans ready and willing to hand over that $60 in order to get their hands on Bethesda’s latest, and it doesn’t disappoint. That is to say, Skyrim doesn’t disappoint when it’s working correctly.

So far we’ve seen a number of bugs and glitches, some of which are funny, some of which are game breaking. Perhaps the most serious issue, however, is the problem PS3 players have been experiencing with larger than average save files – when Skyrim’s autosave file becomes too big on PS3, the game becomes overloaded with lag issues that make that particular save essentially unplayable.

Not a desirable situation to have, and many players were hoping that update 1.2 would solve the issue. Bethesda claimed to have improved the problem with update 1.2, but many PS3 players have been reporting that the issue remains post-patch. So, since a fix wasn’t actually delivered with update 1.2, Bethesda’s surely planning to include the fix in update 1.3, right? Nope!

As it turns out, Bethesda is working on a fix for the PS3 save issue, but it won’t be included in update 1.3, as explained on the Bethesda Blog:

Right now we know it’s not one thing, but a combination of smaller ones that some folks are seeing, but others are not. Some seem to be the PS3 autosaving in the background (you can turn that off), some may be SPU AI updates, and some may relate to dynamic system memory allocation. These fixes are not in the current 1.3 update that is in final testing, but will be in future ones.

We understand how frustrating it can be when your game is having issues, and we thank all of you for your continued feedback and patience. Rest assured we take your gameplay experience seriously and will continue working on this until it’s resolved.

At least Bethesda has fixes in store for the issue, but I doubt that PS3 fans will be pleased by the news that they’ll have to wait for a future update before the fixes are delivered. PS3 players have been dealing with this issue since launch, so by now I’d imagine that many of them have just given up out of frustration.

So, some good news and some bad news for you PS3 Skyrim players. Head down to the comments section and tell us if you’re still experiencing issues with your copy of Skyrim, and keep it tuned right here to TFTS for more information about this incoming Skyrim patch!
