Verizon Ready To Roll-Out Android 2.2.3 For The Original Motorola Droid

The OG Motorola Droid Has Another Software Update Coming, Will Arrive As Android 2.2.3 & Should Be Available Sooner Rather Than Later

Verizon has officially announced the latest update for the original Motorola Droid smartphone. And while this update is not bringing anything over-the-top in terms of excitement, it is nice to see that some attention is still aimed towards this aging handset.

That being said, this update is certainly not bringing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Heck, it is not even bringing Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Instead, the update will arrive as Android 2.2.3 Froyo and dubbed as FRK76. In other words, this is a small update in the grand scheme of things. However while small, it is security related and that means it should be important for all OG Droid users to get.

According to the details coming from Verizon, this Droid update will arrive with “improvements in browser security that help block rogue/unauthorized certificates.” And just to drive home the importance of a security update, Verizon and Motorola “encourage you to download this update.”

Otherwise, while the update is small in terms of changes and/or additions — it is also small in size. The update measures in at a scant 761KB in size and Verizon notes that it should take about 2-5 minutes to download and then another 5 to 10 minutes to install. Bottom line here, given the size of the update, this one is probably safe using either a cellular 3G or Wi-Fi connection — just make sure you have about 15 to 20 minutes of time that you can be without a working phone.

With that, we leave you with this — as always there are two options in front of your. Option one being to sit back and wait patiently for the update notification to arrive. And option two is to take the pro-active route and navigate to Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> System Updates -> Check New to see if it is ready for you.
