Droid Xyboard Name Covers A New Pair Of LTE Tablets

Verizon & Motorola's New LTE Tablets Offer Some Pretty Nice Specs, Both Run Under The Name Droid Xyboard, At Least For Now

Early word suggests that Verizon and Motorola are getting a couple new 4G LTE tablets ready for market, and we even have some word as far as the specs go on these. They’re both running under the name of the Droid Xyboard, at least for right now, and though the name may be strange, I think you’ll find at least the specs reasonably noteworthy.

The Droid Xyboard, part of Motorola Mobility’s new lineup, are set to run on 4G LTE networks, which Verizon, at last report, was putting together. They’re set to release by the end of the month, and though no one’s yet talking about pricing or more precise figures on availability, the specs are available, and they’re not looking any too bad.

You’ll have your choice of an eight or ten inch model, showing at an undetermined resolution, that’s backed up by the same set of specs, which seems a bit unusual. They’ll both offer up–if the reports hold to release–a 1.2 GHz processor, a gig of RAM, a five megapixel camera to the rear and a 1.3 megapixel camera up front for your videoconferencing needs. Both will come with Gorilla Glass construction from Corning, and measure both “thinner than a AAA battery” and “lighter than a paperback book”.

As for differences between the two, at last report, the ten inch Droid Xyboard is geared toward businesses and comes with a stylus, while the eight inch version is “media friendly” and geared more toward the regular consumer.

There’s no information out as far as pricing goes, but I can see these doing pretty well if they come in at a low price, otherwise the sheer number of things we’ve heard about coming out next year–from the Asus Transformer Prime to the iPad 3 and its possible assortment of siblings–will likely overtake these without some kind of inducement.

So what do you guys think about the Droid Xyboards? Anyone think these would be a good tablet for you to pick up? Or do you think you’ll be able to do much better elsewhere? No matter what you think, we’re always glad to hear from you, and the comments section below is just waiting for you to step in!
