Bitdefender Releases Mobile Security App For Android
Mobile device security seems to be an ever-growing category, especially in terms of Android devices. In the past we have mentioned the Lookout application and as of today it looks like there is now another option for those using either an Android tablet or smartphone — Bitdefender Mobile Security.

That being said, from what we can tell, the Bitdefender Mobile Security app is sporting features similar to that of the Lookout app. And just to drop a personal recommendation in here, I have been happily running Lookout for quite some time. But still, while currently happy with Lookout, that does not mean we should not welcome another option. After all, increased apps brings increased competition and that tends to mean good things for us — the end users.
Anyway, the Bitdefender Mobile Security app is available by way of the Android Market and has arrived as version 1.1.483 and coming as a 967k download. The app requires Android 2.0 or later for use, which means it should be good to go for a wide variety of devices.
“Bitdefender Mobile Security makes sure your phone is secure and your privacy protected. The application, which taps Bitdefender’s decade of award winning experience fighting electronic threats, offers a robust defense against invasion of privacy, malicious software and theft while saving battery power for its core purpose – communication.”
The Bitdefender Mobile Security app comes with both a free and premium subscription level. And for those wondering, the premium version comes with a low price of $9.95 on an annual basis. In terms of which features you can expect with both, they are as follows;
FREE Features:
- Malware Scanner
- Application Audit
- Remote Geolocation
PREMIUM Features:
- Malware Scanner
- Application Audit
- Web Security (Currently only works with the default Android browser)
- Anti‐Theft
- Remote Geolocation
- Remote Lock Device
- Remote Wipe Device (Requires permission to access private data)
- Message Device & Play Sound
Bottom line here, it looks like most of the more important features such as remove locking and wiping are included only in the premium option. But still, for just $9.95 on a yearly basis, that seems more than fair.
