Acer Iconia Tab A200 Gets A Full Spec List

Specs Emerge For The Acer Iconia Tab A200, Surprising News For Those Looking For A Simple Android Tablet

It was a little under a month ago that we first saw the Acer Iconia Tab A200 emerge, and while the specs on this one were a little vague when the announcement first emerged, we’ve now got a much more complete picture, complete with official announcement from the crew out at Acer. The news is looking pretty bright if you’re looking for a powerful new Android tablet, so settle in and get ready for some really very surprising news.

First off, the Acer Iconia Tab A200 will not be packing a Kal-El chip, which is a shame, but rather will be loading a Tegra 2 dual-core, a two megapixel front facing camera (nothing on the back, which is unusual to say the least), a full-size USB port, a gig of RAM, your choice of eight or 16 gigs of onboard storage space, and a 10.1 inch display showing at 1280 x 800 resolution. It’s set to ship with Ice Cream Sandwich in January, but anyone who buys before then won’t be left out in the cold, as Acer’s promised free upgrades to anyone who buys the Honeycomb version. It should be able to get eight hours of operation out of one battery charge, and you’ll even be able to get this in your choice of rear plate colors, on the off chance that aesthetics in a tablet is every bit as important to you as specs.

There doesn’t seem to be much difference between this and the A500, which is somewhat odd, and the features that are listed here are also strange. No rear-facing camera? No Ice Cream Sandwich at launch? Kind of unusual, I’d say, and it gets more so. See, based on the press releases, it’s actually available now. Though no one’s quite sure in which countries, or for how much. Considering, however, it’s kind of on the lower end of the scale–and will likely be swamped by the iPad 3 release in the next couple of months (not to mention Acer’s other oncoming tablets)–it looks like the Acer Iconia Tab A200 might well end up on the bargain side of things, and frankly, that’s good to me. The budget tablet space seems a bit sparse compared to the tablets who are trying to compete with the iPad in terms of power, and more competition on the price side will likely be welcome.

But what do you guys think here? Is the Acer Iconia Tab A200 looking like a good cheap tablet? Or will this one shoot itself in the foot and price itself out of the market? No matter what you think, we want to hear from you, and the comments section below is waiting for you to do just that!
