Samsung Shows Off Its New Exynos Lineup With More Power Than May Be Expected
Looks like the tablet game might be getting a little hotter by the time it’s all said and done–Samsung’s showing off a new set of Exynos chips for their portable computing lineup, and you’ll likely be impressed when you hear what kind of capability these little wonders will be packing for your next tablet.

The new Exynos 5250 chipset is going to pack in a pair of two Cortex A15 chips, both of which are running at two GHz apiece. This is backed up by a GPU that will give you resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600, and Samsung figures it can start getting these in tablets by the second quarter of 2012, so if you’re thinking tablet for your various holiday shopping possibilities, you may want to think gift card instead, as it looks like the market’s about to get seriously shaken up.
See, we all knew that Samsung’s Cortex A9 chips don’t do half bad. Anyone unconvinced should check out the Galaxy Note, which may not be the best tablet out there but is certainly no slouch. But dialing it up to A15s should make for even better performance, and considering that we’ve already known about Nvidia’s quad-core Tegra 3 models for some time now, and recent reports suggest a big boom in tablet display quality is imminent, it’s more than understandable why Samsung would jack things up a notch. Though some have wondered about the affects on battery drain here, which will likely be significant.
In fact, we all should bear in mind that Apple will likely be hitting us all up with a new tablet on the order of soon–probably some time in the first half of 2012, if past behavior means anything, so Samsung’s going to need to compete with a growing number of heavy hitters in the tablet field.
So what do you guys think here? Anyone thinking about delaying a tablet purchase thanks to the growing array of big tablets that will be likely coming our way soon? Or do you figure that the tablet boom is exaggerated and you’ll make your purchase from what’s out there right now? Think Samsung’s Exynos 5250 will be able to compete?
