LG Android Smartphones Get Free Cloud Storage From Box.Net [After Giving iOS, webOS & Sony Ericsson Smartphones Free Cloud Storage Accounts, Now Box.Net Partners With LG; New Android Features Introduced, Too]

Box.net is partnering with LG to give free 50GB of cloud storage to all LG Android devices. The service has also launched a new Android client that touts new features meant for managing files more easily on the smartphone.

Box.net earlier announced partnerships with Sony Ericsson, HP and Apple, in which the cloud-storage company will give 50 GB of free storage to Sony Ericsson Android smartphoneHP TouchPad and iOS users. The announcement comes amid Android continuing to increase in market share. Gartner recently reported that 52.5% of smartphones sold in Q3 2011 were Android devices, doubling the figure in the same quarter of 2010.

Box.net’s offering is for a free Box Personal account, with 50 GB of storage, accessible from an Android devices, as well as other platforms like Windows, Mac OS X and even iOS. Users will require an Android device running 2.1 (Eclair) or newer. Aside from the free account, Box.net has also announced a new Android client release, which has the following new features:

  • The ability to download files from Box.net into the LG Android devices;
  • Offline mode, which lets users access files even when not connected to the internet;
  • Bulk upload capability, which gets files, photos and videos into the Box.net account without the need to upload one by one;

LG users have up to March 31, 2012 to claim their free Personal Box.net accounts. Users will need to download the Box.net app from Android Market and sign up from the app’s interface. The free storage is valid for the life of the account, and files can likewise be accessed from other devices.
