New Google Bar in Town As Search Giant Continues Makeover [Horizontal Black Bar of Death Gets Replaced with New Design, Drop-Down Menu Available Under the Google Logo]

A few months ago Google rolled out a new design that was quickly used in more and more Google services and one of its features was immediately hated by Google customers, the horizontal black menu bar.

Even Google isn’t pretty keen of it as the company announced today the black bar of death will disappear. To replace it, Google will use a totally redesigned top bar, one that’s supposed to be much simpler and easier to use. At the center of the bar is, naturally, the Search feature and Google+ is also neatly integrated, not that we’re surprised to see that’s Google is insisting on its search and social networking services. Not to mention that the Google logo gets its own powers now, something we haven’t seen so far in any of Google’s online services:

Instead of the horizontal black bar at the top of the page, you’ll now find links to your services in a new drop-down Google menu nested under the Google logo. We’ll show you a list of links and you can access additional services by hovering over the “More” link at the bottom of the list. Click on what you want, and you’re off.

The short video embedded below quickly shows us the feature of the new wonder bar, and it will be interesting to see how the new changes will be received by the public. Sure, the minimal new design certainly looks good as it frees up the screen, not to mention that it is integrates a lot better with the rest of the design. But while I didn’t hate the black menu bar, I’m on the fence with this design change as it looks like I’ll spend even more time searching for the Google service I want to use than by simply using a menu bar that’s there at all times.

However, that’s just my first impression so far, as I have not tested the new design yet, which is probably going to be rolled out in the following days. How do you like the new Google bar?
