Motorola Announces Gingerbread For The Milestone 2 [Motorola Milestone 2 Users In Europe Will Soon Have Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Update Roll-Out Will Begin Tomorrow & Coming Over-The-Air]

The Motorola Milestone 2 was originally announced back in September of 2010, yes 2010 and since then we have heard very little in terms of the handset. But that being said, back in September of 2011, Motorola came forward with some details in terms of an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

They promised that a Gingerbread update would be coming in Q4 2011. And well, it looks like that update will be coming as expected. The details have recently been posted on the Motorola Facebook page where they break it down as follows;

“News for European Motorola Milestone 2 owners. The upgrade to Gingerbread will begin tomorrow, we will be rolling out in stages and so please watch this space for more information. Thanks!”

Bottom line, those sporting a Milestone 2 in Europe should be on the lookout for an update notification to arrive. We can only hope that it arrives soon for everyone, but alas, at the present time we have yet to see anything specific from European based carriers. Not to mention, anything more specific from Motorola.

Still, while this should be considered good news, we cannot help but feel that many users will not be quite as happy as they were when Motorola first announced this update back in September. After all, since then we have seen the official unveiling of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and we suspect many users are now hoping for some Ice Cream as opposed to Gingerbread.

Regardless, Gingerbread is what will arrive. But trying to end on a happy note, Android 2.3 should play nicely and give the Milestone 2 some added life considering the specs which include a 3.7 inch (480 x 854) touchscreen display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 1Ghz processor, 8GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 1400 mAh battery and 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, digital zoom and dual LED flash.
