iPad 3 Release Early Next Year Said To Kick Off Revolution In Tablet Display Quality [iPad 3's Release Will Start Big Improvements In Tablet Display, According To Reports]
Tablet displays are very important things. After all, when you look at a tablet PC, the display is easily half the device. It’s not only where you look to see what you’re doing, it’s also where you look to control what you’re doing. Part interface and part display, they’re a big part of the operation. And according to reports, the iPad 3 is about to kick off a big new revolution in tablet displays when it makes its appearance next year.

Expectations from the folks at DisplaySearch said that shipment forecast data expects the typical pixels-per-inch count on displays going out in 2012 will go to 191 in early 2012. Considering that the end of 2011 is seeing an average pixels-per-inch count of 147, according to the reports, that’s a pretty pronounced jump indeed.
Leading the charge on that big spike is going to be two-fold: one, the expected iPad 3, set to offer a big 9.7 inch display at a 2048 x 1536 resolution, and two, a bit of a surprise, the Acer Iconia A700, which is set to offer up a ten inch display showing at 1920 x 1200 resolution.
And this is set to kick off a revolution as the rest of the companies in the tablet market space rush to minimize the competitive advantages presented by the superior resolution tablets, to the point where, by spring, the average pixels-per-inch measure is set to go to 203, and by summer, the average should reach 212. By way of comparison, desktop and laptop displays were expected to hold steady at 93 pixels per inch, while televisions are looking to actually drop somewhat thanks to increased sizes lowering densities a bit down to 55 pixels per inch by summer.
This is no doubt a great development for everyone out there looking to get in on the tablet market, as better product will be steadily emerging within a matter of months, likely making it a good idea to hold off on a purchase until later on, but what do you guys think here? Can you wait that long to pick up your new tablet? Or are you disregarding the pixel density measures as being largely impossible for you to tell with the naked eye anyway? No matter what you think here, we welcome your opinion down in the comments section!
