Apple Approves Tethering App For The iPhone [iTether App, By Tether Now Available In The iOS App Store, Will Allow For Unapproved Data Tethering & Comes Priced At $14.99]

We have seen some apps come into the App Store in the past that arrived as a surprise. Sometimes those apps stay around for a while and sometimes they disappear rather quickly. That being said, we are not all that certain what the case is here, however it looks like Apple has approved a tethering app.

The app comes by way of a developer calling themselves Tether and is appropriately dubbed iTether. The app is priced at $14.99, comes as version 1.1 and requires iOS 4.2 or later for use.

In short, iTether will allow the user to tether their iPhones connection and share it with another device — such as your Windows and/or OS X running notebook. And for those wondering if any other devices will be able to share the connection (such as a tablet) — it looks like this will be limited to sharing with either of the previously mentioned notebook types as additional software is required.

Tether is easy to install, easy to use, works practically anywhere, and is very cost-effective.”

Of course, it is that last part, the cost-effective portion that concerns us most. After all, many of the wireless carriers are cracking down on unauthorized tethering lately. But hey, if tethering is what you need and you are not willing to pay what the carrier is asking on a monthly basis, the iTether app may be what you are looking for.

Bottom line, given we are not all that certain if this app will remain available — we suggest making the purchase and downloading the app sooner rather than later. You know, just in case the carriers complain and Apple removes it from the App Store.
