Sony & Hitachi Are Sending Apple Four Inch Displays & More To Follow, Say Reports

Reports Suggest That Four Inch Displays Are Departing Sony & Hitachi For Apple, Possibly To Be Part Of The Next iPhone, But That's Not All

A new report suggests that we may be looking at the start of the next big thing in iPhone displays, and they’re coming off the line right now out at Hitachi and Sony alike. How do we know they’re iPhone displays, you wonder? Simple–at last report, the devices were looking to head into Apple’s hands.

Sony and Hitachi are getting the four inch displays together for an iOS device, say the reports, and though there aren’t very many specifics out there about said displays as yet, the early word figures they’re going to be part of the next iPhone, as there’s nothing in the pipe about a radically altered iPod Touch as yet, and a four inch iPad would likely be a problem. The thought that these may be iPad displays, meanwhile, is further undercut by reports that suggest that Sony and Hitachi are working on something else, that is, radically different display panels for the next iPad. Some of the reports are discussing the possibility that the iPad 3 may pack in a Retina Display, which would give Apple a pretty substantial edge in the marketplace. You know, even more substantial than the one it already enjoys by dint of being Apple.

It’s interesting to see the numbers of suppliers that Apple’s said to be working with is growing, and right now, the big loser in this one looks to be Samsung, who is not only on the receiving end of a whole lot of Apple lawsuits, but also looks like its place in Apple’s supply chain may possibly be very much at risk. Of course, Apple may have learned from previous incarnations of their devices, and the attendant shortages that followed their launches, and is just trying to be as prepared as possible, but it’s worth considering that Apple may be looking to completely remove Samsung from the chain altogether.

But still…new displays for an iPhone? At least one new iPad coming in the short term? Lots of great things to come out of Apple, it would seem, so there will be plenty to keep an eye out for. But what do you guys think here? Which new Apple device are you most looking forward to? Planning to pick any of them up when they do hit? Or do you think Apple will back out of the new device release rush they’ve been on and pace them out a bit more? No matter what you think, the comments section is waiting for you below!
