LG Confirms Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update For Select Handsets

We have seen some bits and pieces in terms of which LG devices would be getting the upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, however as of today we now have a bit more to go on. Of course, what we have at this point is still not the entire picture, but it is refreshing to see that at least some (of the recently released) smartphones will have an update coming.

That being said, the details from LG are coming by way of their official Facebook page where the have let users know that four of the “high-end” smartphones that were released in 2011 will get an update. The full statement from LG is as follows;

LG confirms today that the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS will be initially available for the following high-end LG smartphones which were introduced this year: the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE. We are also continuing to evaluate the ICS OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the ICS OS available on as many LG smartphones as possible.

In December this year, the forthcoming upgrade schedule and additional specific models for the ICS OS upgrade will be posted on our LG Mobile Global Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LGMobile) and on our local LG websites. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.

In short, those sporting an Optimus 2x, Optimus Black, Optimus 3D or Optimus LTE have gotten a bit of good news. Regardless, while those were the only handsets mentioned at this time, there could still be some more added to that list. Bottom line here, LG has offered up four names and promised more information to arrive in December. Thankfully December is just a few days away at this point so we should be getting more information sooner rather than later. Or at least that is what we are hoping to see happen.
