Ice Cream Sandwich On All 2011 Sony Ericsson Phones Gets Release Window
Just about two weeks ago, our own Robert Nelson brought you the first word on the Ice Cream Sandwich expansion plans for the 2011 lineup of Sony Ericsson phones, and now we’ve gotten word in that the launch window for this lineup is actually tighter than previously envisioned. How tight, you wonder? Well, the word is that early in 2012, we should be seeing this rollout hit.

In fact, the current word suggests that the Sony Ericsson lineup from 2011 should be landing by March 2012, meaning they’ll be cutting the first quarter very close, but before the snow fully melts in a lot of places.
Of course, this report should be taken with a grain of salt: the report was said to have come from a Facebook question posed to Sony Ericsson’s head of marketing, not an official company press statement. Plus, of course, considering that we’re still talking about dates that are about a third of a year out, so anything could come along to stifle that particular launch. But if the marketing folks are looking at a launch by March 2012, especially since the product is already made, the chances of it being delayed too far from that are pretty slim, I’d say. I would look for this to be available and ready to go by the end of summer, if nothing else.
Naturally, the sooner the better is the watchword here, and considering the likelihood of a new iPhone to come out later next year, this puts a lot of pressure on the Android market to get Ice Cream Sandwich going on as many platforms as possible well ahead of that launch, which will sweep up the news cycles and thus keep anything Android from getting the air time it could.
So what do you guys think here? Figure that we’ll be seeing Ice Cream Sandwich on Sony Ericsson’s newest stuff by early next year? Or will they not be able to live up to their expected launch? No matter what you think, we want to hear from you, and the comments section below is the place to fill us in!
