Gigabyte Booktop T1132 Makes Its Appearance
I’m sure more than a few of you out there have stared at the shelves at your local electronics store–or possibly sat around mooning at your open window of Amazon or the like–and began to wonder, what would you get the most use out of: a tablet, or a laptop? Well, the folks out at Gigabyte want to put that debate to rest by offering you both at the same time with their Booktop T1132.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of the Booktop–we heard about its predecessor the Booktop T1125P out at the Computex show back last June–but this version will be picking up the specs a little bit. In fact, they’re set to offer up an Intel Core i5-2467M processor running at 1.6 GHz, as well as a GeForce GT520M GPU, a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, and the capability to add more ports and an extra optical drive thanks to its docking station. Plus, it’s got a rather unique design that lets you basically take a laptop screen, flatten it all the way down, and then rotate the device until the keyboard is under the screen, thus giving you the option to turn your laptop into a tablet. Granted, into a tablet so heavy you could probably use it to bludgeon intruders, but also a tablet with full-on laptop-grade specs.
It’s an interesting enough idea, and must be gaining some ground somewhere for them to be bringing out a new one, though no one’s sure just when these will be released, or how much they’ll cost when they do emerge. Considering, though, that the T1125P was set to sell at $1300, it’s probably a safe bet that these won’t cost a whole lot less than that, and more likely, more. However, Gigabyte’s attempting to give one away thanks to a little Facebook contest: all you need to do is become a fan over at their Facebook page, and then fill out a survey to enter, then one winner will be selected. Plus, if they get 6000 fans on their Facebook page, they’ll throw a second one into the pot for giving away.
Not sure if this one is going to get a whole lot of interested buyers; it costs a whole lot more than even a laptop with comparable specs, and the advantages of turning it into a huge tablet may not be that useful. But what do you guys think about this one? Anybody interested in picking up a Booktop T1132? Head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!
