Amazon Touts Black Friday 2011 As Being The Best Ever For The Kindle Family
It looks like the Kindle has been good to Amazon this holiday shopping season. More specifically, the Kindle Fire has been good for Black Friday sales and not only for Amazon, but with other retailers such as Target and Best Buy.

The details are coming from Amazon by way of official press release and offer the following highlight;
“Amazon.com, Inc. today announced that this Black Friday was the best ever for the Kindle family and the popular Kindle Fire remained the bestselling product across all of Amazon since its introduction 8 weeks ago.”
Of course, by the Kindle family, they are referring to not only the Kindle Fire but also the Kindle Touch, Kindle Touch 3G and the Kindle. Granted, the recently dropped pricing probably has helped the e-ink based Kindle devices, however a $199 tablet Kindle is also a nice way to go considering the competition (and current pricing) in that space.
Further details from Amazon include how the Kindle readers were doing well even before the holiday shopping season officially kicked off on this past Friday. Breaking these down as best we can without having any actual numbers from Amazon and we have the following;
“Even before the busy holiday shopping weekend, we’d already sold millions of the new Kindle family and Kindle Fire was the bestselling product across all of Amazon.com. Black Friday was the best ever for the Kindle family – customers purchased 4X as many Kindle devices as they did last Black Friday – and last year was a great year,” said Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle.
Additionally, it looks like the lower prices have helped in terms of making the Kindle devices acceptable as gifts to be given. Further details from Dave Limp suggest that people are buying more than one Kindle — one for themselves and one for someone else. And that said, while Amazon seems pretty happy with how the Kindle family is selling thus far, Limp also stated that they “expect this trend to continue on Cyber Monday and through the holiday shopping season.”
Of course, we are still curious to see some actual sales numbers. Plus, we are also a bit curious to see how Kindle Fire devices sales will translate into Amazon Prime membership sales.
