Samsung Nexus Prime Gets Official Listing at Best Buy, Complete with Pricing [Best Buy Seems to Still Believe the Galaxy Nexus Will Sell Under a Different Name, to Cost $299.99 on Contract]

A few days ago we saw a strange Best Buy ad which featured the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in all its glory, but Best Buy used a different name for the device, the Nexus Prime. That’s what the phone used to be called ahead of its official launch, and now nobody, except for Best Buy, is using that moniker.

Was it all a mistake? It appears not, as Best Buy has put up an official Galaxy Nexus page on its website and used the Nexus Prime name again. The price of the phone is still listed at $299.99 with two-year Verizon contracts, but anyone interested in picking up an off contract Nexus Prime will be able to do so for “just” $799.99.

The “Verizon Wireless Samsung Nexus Prime 4G LTE” page is still up there as it hasn’t been pulled yet, which suggest this isn’t a mistake that’s going to be corrected. And we certainly expect a giant retailer such as Best Buy to know a thing or two about its upcoming products, including official names.

Verizon is yet to confirm launch dates and prices for the handset, and the carrier has never referred to the handset as the Nexus Prime. Even its official press release announcing the 4G LTE smartphone features the same name everyone is using for the handset, the Galaxy Nexus.

Best Buy is not saying when the handset will be launched, although word on the street is that the phone will hit stores on December 9. The launch of the Galaxy Nexus has proven to be a lot more disappointing than expected so far. Despite being deemed to be the main iPhone 4S rival this holiday season, the phone is not available in the USA yet – although an unlocked GSM/HSPA+ version is available from Expansys – as the Galaxy Nexus launch drama continues.

Have you purchased a different handset instead of the Galaxy Nexus?
