iPhone 4 Manufactured In Brazil Breaks Cover Complete With Own Model Number [The Brazilians Are Getting Into The iPhone 4 Game, With A Foxconn Factory Getting Ahead Of The Planned iPad Game]
We’ve been hearing for some time now about Foxconn’s plans to move a factory into Brazil, and reports are emerging to suggest that the enterprise has already borne fruit. While the official release of the eight gig iPhone 4 in Brazil wasn’t planned until the iPhone 4S arrives, one of them has apparently been discovered thanks to some early photos purported to be of the eight gig iPhone 4.

What’s making more than a few folks think that the pictures in question are of an eight gig iPhone 4? Well, the pictures in question–one of which we’ve got directly below–depicts a device that not only has a stamp of approval from Brazilian telecommunications agency ANATEL, it also offers up the words “Brazilian Industry” in Portuguese.

At last report, the iPhone 4 in question offers iOS 5.0 out of the gate, and is expected to hit Brazil right about the same time as the iPhone 4S.
Foxconn’s plans to get fully involved in Brazil, to the tune of $12 billion at last report, have been said to be hampered by several problems like tax rate issues, problems with getting the necessary infrastructure (roads, power supplies and the like) in play as well as issues of finding people with sufficient technical skill to serve as iOS device assemblers. Still though, that these pictures exist in the first place suggests at least some progress has been made.
It’s certainly not a bad idea for Foxconn to get more of a presence going worldwide; with fuel costs rising overall against even just five or ten years ago, it’s clear that export costs are going to be a significant draw on most everybody’s bottom line for some time to come, and the more work that Foxconn can do in closer proximity to their customers is only going to save them money. And, hopefully, start lowering some costs on Apple hardware to boot. Meanwhile, word that Foxconn was looking to also put up some iPads down that way is still somewhat stalled, at last report.
So what do you guys think of this one? Think Foxconn’s expansion into the Brazilian market is a smart move? Concerned about the overall economic ramifications involved in such a maneuver? There’s a whole lot of room for discussion in this field that’s already yielded one such product if the reports hold true, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!
