Nokia Lumia 800 To Get Firmware Fixes [Nokia Has Plans To Issue Two Firmware Fixes In The Next Several Weeks Addressing Battery Life, Charging Issues, & Overall Power Use Efficiency]

Well, if you thought the iPhone 4S was the only smartphone out there seeing post-release difficulties, that’s no longer the case, as word emerges that Nokia has plans to release two firmware updates following a whole lot of complaints about the devices. And when you hear what the firmware updates were geared towards fixing, you might find it a bit familiar.

As it turns out, recent buyers of the Nokia Lumia 800 took to the support forums out at Nokia, packed with stories of poor battery life. Some users only managed to get a day’s worth of normal use out of the thing before having to recharge, which is definitely not a good sign. Nokia reportedly put out an FAQ geared toward improving battery life, but the responses–one of which reportedly included “deactivate the 3G connection”–left users who didn’t feel it should be necessary to manipulate network settings to get a full day’s use out of their devices quite cold.

Of course, Nokia quickly got the word out that said most Lumia 800 users weren’t having a lick of difficulty with their phones, but since there were some problem handsets, as evidenced by the users on the support forums, they’d be getting out a couple software updates geared toward fixing the reported problems. The first one is set to hit in a matter of days–early December–and will be geared toward improving the efficiency of power use. A second update in January, meanwhile, will address “further enhancements to battery life and battery charging”, in a statement Nokia reportedly released.

The fixes will be released via Microsoft’s Zune app, so keep an eye out for those in the very near future.

I can’t help but agree with the users who think they should get more out of their devices on a single charge, though it is good to see that Nokia’s taking this fairly seriously, with fixes beginning to emerge in the next couple week with an eye toward complete fix by the early days of 2012. And it’s good to see iPhone isn’t alone in the post-release bugs category.

But what about you guys? Anyone having issues with their Nokia Lumia 800 phone? Or weren’t you interested in getting hands on one of these to begin with? No matter what you think, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!
