Lenovo Said To Be Working On Five Inch Dual Core Tablet
Interesting news this morning from the crew out at Lenovo–seems that they’re looking to buck the trend that’s moving companies away from smaller tablets by looking to put out their own. And their own will be landing in the form of the five inch IdeaTab, with a pretty nice set of hardware under its chassis and some very interesting questions to boot.

The five inch IdeaTab is set to offer up a dual-core processor, as well as microUSB and microHDMI inputs, a front-facing camera, and capacitive Android buttons, which don’t exactly bode well for hopes to see Ice Cream Sandwich–let alone Honeycomb–running on this one.
Some have made comparisons between this and the IdeaTab U300s, and it’s not too hard to see where those come from. And admittedly, the design is looking pretty sharp, even if the whole small tablet thing hasn’t exactly been well received by past models like the Dell Streak 5 and the Galaxy Player 5.0. But with the Galaxy Note set to come out, and Apple possibly working on a smaller iPad, the possibilities are certainly there.

But there could be more than form factor at work here, and it’s safe to say that if Lenovo can bring out a small, inexpensive tablet that runs like an iPad, they may well be able to get in very well with price-sensitive customers. And let’s face it, the price-sensitive are a pretty big market these days, so offering them a way to get at least most of what they want at a price they can live with is a worthwhile strategy. And there certainly are some unanswered questions here, like the full spec loadout as well as pricing and release dates, questions that require answers to make any kind of real supposition as to whether or not Lenovo’s strategy can work in the first place.
So what do you guys think about this one? Do you figure Lenovo can make a small tablet work? If so, under what conditions? What would it take to make a five inch tablet appealing for you guys?
