Infinity Ward Bans 1,600 Modern Warfare 3 Players

Buying the most popular game of the year – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – comes with both benefits and disadvantages. On the plus side, you know that there will always be games going, as thousands of people will constantly be looking for games for quite some time after release. On the negative side, however, more players means that there will be more undesirable personalities and cheaters to play with.

While there’s not much you can do about the people who suffer from an excess of douchiness, at least Infinity Ward is taking care of the cheaters. The studio recently banned over 1,600 players that were confirmed as Modern Warfare 3 cheaters, which IW’s Robert Bowling recently discussed on Twitter:

Reporting [cheaters] in-game through [Modern Warfare 3] goes directly to our security team, who issues the bans directly after verifying. Every ban unique to the level of douchiness of the offense. The greater the douche, the greater the length. PermaDouche possible.

Bowling says that Infinity Ward’s security team looks at each case individually, which implies that there won’t be many unjustified bans while the group hunts down cheaters. It’s good to see that Infinity Ward is being so proactive in the quest to ban cheaters too – cheating has always been a major problem in Modern Warfare games, and Infinity Ward has come under fire in the past for not doing anything about cheaters later on in the game’s life.
