HTC Wildfire S Announced For MetroPCS [MetroPCS Officially Announces The HTC Wildfire S; Features Include A 3.2" Display, 5MP Camera, Android 2.3 & A Contract Free Price Of $179]

It looks like MetroPCS has officially announced their latest Android smartphone, which coincidentally happens to be their first from HTC. The handset is the Wildfire S and it will arrive running Android 2.3 Gingerbread along with HTC’s Sense user interface.

According to the details coming from the press release announcement, the HTC Wildfire S will be available with MetroPCS both online and in-store beginning “this week.” And similar to the other available handsets, this one comes as pre-paid. In other words, no long term commitments to worry about.

“As we continue to deliver Android for All to our customers, our partnership with HTC is yet another way we’re delivering today’s most advanced smartphones with the affordability and flexibility of our no-annual contract services,” said Tom Keys, president and chief operating officer of MetroPCS. “The HTC brand continues to increase in popularity given its high-quality, cutting-edge smartphones that allow consumers to do more while on the go. The HTC Wildfire S is a perfect example – a powerful, yet chic device that delivers the most of Android, while making it easier to enjoy the multimedia and entertainment consumers love.”

That being said, those who move forward with the purchase should be prepared to shell out $179 (plus tax) for the purchase of the handset and then another $50 or $60 for the monthly smartphone plan. And for those wondering, the $50 and $60 per month plans come with similar features in that they both offer unlimited calling, messaging and data. The $60 plan does come with one perk — Rhapsody Unlimited Music.

Anyway, with the pricing of the handset and the monthly plan out of the way, lets get into the specs. The Wildfire S will arrive sporting a 3.2 inch HVGA touchscreen display, 600MHz processor, 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 5 megapixel camera with flash. Otherwise, the handset measures in at 4.6 x 2.4 x 0.47 inches and weighs in at 4 ounces.

Bottom line, the Wildfire S will be available with MetroPCS shortly and should make a nice handset for those looking for a mid-level (and reasonably priced) Android smartphone that comes with no-contracts.
