Galaxy Nexus or Nexus Prime? Best Buy Seems Confused
You’d expect a company like Best Buy not to make (too many) mistakes, but how should we catalog the ad below, which shows the Galaxy Nexus right next to Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy S II versions as well as other Verizon smartphones? But Google’s third Nexus handset is called the Nexus Prime in it instead of what we have been calling it for more than a month now, the Galaxy Nexus.

The device used to be called the Nexus Prime well ahead its official announcement, but the Nexus Prime moniker has not been used in quite a while. In fact, Verizon has officially confirmed it will launch it as the Galaxy Nexus – here’s the title of its October 22 press release: VERIZON WIRELESS INTRODUCES THE GALAXY NEXUS BY SAMSUNG – so why is Best Buy using a different name for it?
This doesn’t appear to be an older handset either, since it features AT&T’s and Sprint’s Galaxy S II versions, which were announced in late August, but also the HTC Rezound which was unveiled just a few weeks ago. Furthermore, the HTC Rezound comes with its official Verizon pricing, $299.99 with new two-year contracts. That also happens to be the price of the Nexus Prime, as listed by Best Buy, but that’s probably something we all expected considering that the third Nexus is a 4G LTE handset.

So if it isn’t a mistake then we may be looking at a fake ad. Has someone intentionally leaked such images in order to receive some immediate attention from the web?
If it’s not a Best Buy mistake, and it’s not a faked ad either, then should we assume Verizon is rebranding the handset for some wild reason? It’s not like any other carrier in the U.S. will launch the Galaxy Nexus soon – or at least nobody is saying anything yet, at least not officially. Last, but not least, the leaked ad doesn’t seem ready to unveil launch dates for the Galaxy Nexus / Nexus Prime. We’ll be back with more news as we have them, so keep us bookmarked in the mean time!
