15-inch MacBook Air Release Date Was Supposed to be October 2010; Now Sometime in 2012?
A few days ago a new report talked about next year’s iPad 3, iPhone 5/6 and the 15-inch MacBook Air/Pro, and we’re particularly interested in the notebook today as we hear Apple wanted to launch the device one year ago.

According to 9to5mac, Apple wanted to announce three MacBook Air models in October 2010, all featuring the same ultra-thin design: 11-inch, 13-inch and 15-inch. But as we all know, Steve Jobs only unveiled two of them as the 15-inch design was not presented to the public. Instead Apple delayed it to a later date, and as the 2011 Air refresh did not include a 15-inch model we can only hope Apple will launch it next year.
Why did Apple cancel the launch of the 15-inch Air? Apparently there was a problem with its hinges, which were “failing to reliably hold the weight of, and stay affixed to, the larger bezel/screens.” Apple decided to redesign the hinges and postpone the launch of the laptop. But the company didn’t cancel the project and it continues to work on the larger MacBook Air design:
Prototypes of the 2010 15-inch MacBook Air are still floating around the Cupertino campus and even with its weak hinges, our sources have maintained an unhealthy amount of affection for these products.
The 15-inch MacBook Air/Pro rumor has been floating around for the better part of the year, with various reports suggesting that Apple was indeed developing either a larger MacBook Air or a thinner MacBook Pro, but there was never solid proof to back up such rumors. At this time we have no idea what kind of hardware such a notebook will pack, but we’re certainly interested in Apple’s 2012 MacBoon versions.
Let’s hear it from you, Mac buyers, would you purchase an ultra-thin 15-inch MacBook? What line would you like it to be part of, the Air or the Pro?
