Rockstar Hints At Bully Sequel

Rockstar Discusses The Possibility Of A Bully Sequel After Max Payne 3 Is Finished

Normally, when you think of a Rockstar series that has garnered a lot of controversy, you think of Grand Theft Auto. Politicians around the world love Grant Theft Auto, constantly telling us how it will turn our children into car thieves that kill cops and prostitutes.

While Grand Theft Auto may take the lion’s share of the controversy when it comes to Rockstar’s games, there’s another Rockstar title that managde to attract its fair share of moral outrage. You know which game I’m talking about: Bully. Bully gave politicians and concerned parents alike a better platform than any to say that video games turn kids into violent and cold miscreants.

Never mind the fact that Bully got stellar reviews and that most people with a brain can tell the difference between fantasy and reality. But hey, that’s just the way this world of ours operates. Rockstar, apparently, can take the heat and the outrage, because Dan Houser told Gamasutra today that there might be a Bully sequel on the way once Rockstar gets Max Payne 3 out the door:

Contrary to a lot of people, we like to take a little bit of time at the end of a game before starting a sequel, so we can wait for the excitement or disappointment and everything else of the experience to shake down and really see what we should do in the next game.

So we knew that we didn’t want to start doing the Bully sequel instantly at that second with those guys — even though it is a property that, like Max, we adore and might come back to in the future. There was just no impetus to do that then. So we said, ‘You can do Max, and then we will see what we can do with Bully.’ So it was really waiting for the slot to open up and the group to open up to at least start work on it.

Sounds good to me! The original Bully was a great game, and I’d definitely buy its sequel. These days, though, it seems like a new Bully game would draw a lot more controversy than the original did back in 2006. What do you think? Are you ready for a new Bully game? Do you think politicians will start calling for video game bans all over again if a new Bully game is released? Head down to the comments section and sound off!
