Minecraft Officially & Finally Released [Upload Of Minecraft's Official Release Kicks Off MineCon 2011 In Las Vegas]

After two long years of development, today is Minecraft‘s day to shine. That’s because it finally got an official release today, at the first ever Minecraft convention, MineCon 2011. In fact, the release of Minecraft was the event that kicked off MineCon, which is taking place at the Mandalay Bay Casino and Hotel right this minute.

Unfortunately, this announcement would be a lot more exciting if everyone hadn’t already been playing Minecraft for the past two years – I think this is the first time I have played hundreds of hours of a game and then lost interest before it actually released.

Anyway, if you’ve yet to purchase Minecraft, you can get yourself a copy of the shiny finished version for $26.95. The game is available for both Windows and Mac, so no one has any excuse for missing out on this game. Be warned though, Minecraft‘s servers are understandably going through some additional stress at the moment, so it may be a while before you’re actually able to purchase the game.

But just because Minecraft has had its official release doesn’t mean that Mojang is done tweaking it. The Minecraft team will continue releasing updates and patches for the game, but now that Notch can say that Minecraft has released, attention at Mojang will probably shift more toward Scrolls, the studio’s upcoming collectible card game.

All of this talk about Minecraft lately has gotten me in the mood to pick up a pickaxe and sword once more and give a new Minecraft world a spin. However, I think I’m going to wait on Minecraft for a while – my Khajiit is currently waist deep in things to do with the thieves guild, and it’s totally awesome.
