Electronic Arts Hit With Class Action Lawsuit Over Battlefield 3 Blunder

Disgruntled Players File Lawsuit Against EA After Discovering Battlefield 1943 Missing From Battlefield 3

If there’s one thing people should know by now, it’s that gamers take gaming very seriously. Cooper Lawrence figured that out after she lambasted Mass Effect – a game she had never played – on national television – her books attracted tons of negative Amazon reviews from pissed off gamers who saw her appearance on CNN.

Electronic Arts will soon learn gamers don’t like to be messed with too, as a class action lawsuit has been brought against the publisher. Why are gamers angry with EA? Because it failed to deliver on its promise of a free copy of Battlefield 1943 to everyone who purchased the PS3 version of Battlefield 3.

The suit, which alleges that EA “misled and profited from thousands of their customers by making a promise that they could not, and never intended, to keep,” is being taken on by Edelson McGuire, and also takes issue with the manner in which EA announced that Battlefield 1943 wouldn’t be included with Battlefield 3. The publisher didn’t announce that Battlefield 1943 was missing until after Battlefield 3 had launched, and made the announcement over Twitter no less, leaving many in the dark as to why Battlefield 1943 was nowhere to be found.

Normally, I don’t think that class action lawsuits are good for much besides making the lawyers that take them even more rich, but I do think that EA needs to be held accountable here because I’m pretty sure this counts as false advertising.

At the end of the day, however, will this really change EA’s behavior? I sincerely doubt it, but I suppose you never know. For now, though, head down to the comments section and share your thoughts – do you think the disgruntled players have a case here, or will EA get off scott free? Leave us a comment telling us what you think, and keep it tuned here to TFTS for more info on this lawsuit!
