Asus Transformer Prime Available for Pre-order on Amazon, Briefly

Amazon Offers Transformer Prime Pre-order Then Pulls It With No Explanation]

Just over a week ago Asus officially announced its upcoming tablet, the Zenbook-like Asus Transformer Prime, which happens to be the first NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core tablet in the world. The Transformer Prime will sell for $499 but it doesn’t have a specific launch date other than early December.

With that in mind, we’re not surprised to hear that Amazon has decided to offer the Transformer Prime for pre-order, a common practice for the retailer when it comes to upcoming products, especially now that we’re getting closer and closer to December. But we were surprised to hear that Amazon decided to quickly pull the product and, as we speak, the pre-order page is not available anymore.

Amazon is going to offer the new Transformer tablet for $492.20, or a few dollars off the regular price, not that such a meager discount really matters. It will be interesting to see whether the Transformer Prime will be available in stores in the coming days, in time for Black Friday, or whether Amazon will only list it in the week following the Thanksgiving shopping spree, but still in time for that early December launch.

In order for you to make an educated buying decision, here are, once again, the official specs and features of the Transformer Prime:

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen Super IPS+ LCD display with 1,280 x 800 resolution
  • 1.3GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor
  • 1GB DDR2 RAM
  • 32GB and 64GB capacity expandable via SD cards
  • 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 8-megapixel camera with single LED flash and autofocus
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • GPS
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
  • 25Wh battery capable of offering 12 hours of battery life
  • Sensor: ambient light, gyroscope, compass, magnetometer, accelerometer
  • Android 3.2 Honeycomb
  • full QWERTY keyboard with trackpad (optional docking accessory)
