Saints Row 3 Online Pass Gets You A Free Copy Of Saints Row 2 On PS3

Redeem Your Saints Row: The Third Online Pass On PS3, Get Saints Row 2 For Free

Remember when THQ and Sony promised PS3 owners and prospective Saints Row: The Third purchasers that the PS3 version of the game would be getting a platform exclusive game mode? Then, remember when that PS3 exclusive game mode never showed up? That was a fun time, right?

Apparently that isn’t the case, and a lot of people are justifiably upset. After all, I’m pretty sure that counts as some form of false advertising here in the US, so people have good reason to take issue with THQ and Sony’s actions. At least it appears that the two companies know they screwed up, because it was announced today that those who redeem Saints Row: The Third‘s online pass will be getting a free copy of Saints Row 2.

Not a bad deal, especially because you have all the way until February 13th to redeem your Saints Row: The Third online pass (not to mention that the online pass comes free with new copies of the game). The free copies of Saints Row 2 will be available starting next week, and unfortunately for most of the regions of the world, this deal is only available for the US, Canada, and Mexico. Of course, this free copy of Saints Row 2 will probably be useless to most of the people who bought Saints Row: The Third anyway, considering most them have probably already played Saints Row 2.

But hey, it’s better than nothing. What worries me is this trend of promising things that are platform exclusive and then not delivering on that promise when launch time arrives. Even worse, no one ever says anything about it either, they just leave gamers on their own to discover the missing content. It happened with the PS3 version of Battlefield 3, and we saw the same exact thing with Saints Row: The Third.

Hopefully this doesn’t become a “thing” with publishers like online pass has, because online pass is bad enough. What do you think? Will we see this happen more often, or do you think it was just a slip up? Take to the comments section to sound off!
