Minecraft Pocket Edition iOS Now Available In New Zealand

Minecraft iOS Now Available In New Zealand, Coming To App Store In North America & Europe Later Today

Minecraft‘s final release is now so close that we can smell it, but before the full game get its time in the spotlight, the iOS version is sneaking onto the App Store. Minecraft Pocket Edition was released on the New Zealand App Store, which means that iOS users around the world will finally be getting their own little version of Minecraft very soon.

Minecraft Pocket Edition was exclusive to the Xperia Play for quite some time before releasing on all Android phones in September, and now it seems that the mobile Minecraft roll out is nearly complete. Minecraft should be available on North American and European App Stores sometime later today, and judging from the $9.99 New Zealand price tag, it’ll be £4.99/$6.99 when it arrives (in other words, the same price as the Android version). It’s also a universal app, which means that you can purchase one copy and play it on both you iPhone and iPad

The lure of making your blocky creations literally anywhere you go is probably going to be too strong for a lot of people to ignore, but what I’ve been hearing about the Minecraft Pocket Edition so far isn’t great. I haven’t played it, but I’ve heard that the touch controls don’t really make building a simple task, but then again, that just might be jaded gamers who are upset that they didn’t get the full Minecraft experience talking.

Speaking of Minecraft, I need to get back to that. It’s been quite some time since I sat down for a little building and subterranean combat. Perhaps when I grow tired of slaying dragons in Skyrim, I can go slay the ones Minecraft appears to be getting, eh?

So, how about it? Have you played the portable version of Minecraft? If so, what did you think of it – would you care to pass along a recommendation to your iOS-loving friends? Head down to the comments section to share your thoughts on Minecraft Pocket Edition!
