Is Nokia Planning An Even Better Lumia?

We’ve been hearing more than a little about the Nokia Lumia series of late, especially the high-end Nokia Lumia 800. And while both are looking pretty sharp in their own right, there’s a chance that Nokia hasn’t actually tipped its entire hand of smartphones as yet. And what they’re holding back on may prove to be the best of all.

What started the whole ball rolling on this one was a recent interview between the head of NokiaFrance and the French newspaper LesEchos, in which the head of NokiaFrance likened the Lumia series to BMW, saying that there would be a full range of phones available, and comparing the Nokia Lumia 800 to a BMW Series 5 car. The part that made several folks think that there may be a better car to come requires a bit of a leap of logic, starting with the realization that BMW has three series, the Series 3, the Series 5 and the Series 7. And if the Lumia 800 is the Series 5, as stated in the interview, that would likely make the Lumia 710 the Series 3.

So, as more than a few have already asked, where’s the Series 7?

Admittedly, that’s a leap of logic. It’s entirely possible that the head of NokiaFrance didn’t mean what he said, or made the comparison erroneously, but that suggest at least the possibility of a third Nokia Lumia in general. Maybe the 800 is the top end, and maybe there will be a prepaid version later, or possibly just a bargain model geared toward market penetration. Nokia has seen better days, after all, so it’s got to make a move to retake some of its lost user base. It’s either going to have to be better than what’s out there (and given some Android phones, or the iPhone 4S, that’s a tall order) or cheaper, and either direction is just as viable.
