HP Envy 17 & HP Envy 15 Get Official Unveiling

HP's Latest Ultra-Thin Laptops, The Envy 17 & The Envy 15, Get A Whole New Lease On Life & Some Very Noteworthy Specs

It’s been the better part of a year since we last heard much of anything out of the HP Envy lineup, but now we’ve got an update, and was it ever worth the wait! Two new laptops in the Envy line-the Envy 17 and the Envy 15–both got their first appearances, and both will reportedly be hitting shelves very soon. And while you may have thought them previously dead, the new line shows there’s still plenty of life in them.

As the name implies, the Envy 15 will boast a 15.6 inch LCD display that offers up a Radiance Infinity IPS panel display that shows at 1366 x 768 resolution, and at last report, that will be upgradeable to boot. This fairly impressive display will be backed up by a standard Intel Core i5-243oM processor, as well as six gigs of DDR3 RAM and a 500 gig hard drive, as well as AMD Radeon graphics (themselves backed up by a gig of video memory), DVD drive, Beats integration with six channel speakers and a subwoofer. You should get fully nine hours of battery life out of this one.

The Envy 17, meanwhile, offers up a 17.3 inch display with the 1080p Radiance Infinity screen, though this one will be merely a TN panel. Meanwhile, you’ll get the same basic specs as the Envy 15, unless of course you step up to the Envy 17 3D, also available, that will throw in a full HD Radiance 3D display, active shutter glasses (two of them, specifically) and a Blu-ray player. This one even throws in an extra half hour of battery life over its slightly smaller cousin.

Pricing, meanwhile, is about where you’d expect it to be, with the Envy 15 going for $1100, the Envy 17 stepping up to $1250, and the Envy 17 3D version going to $1599, none of which are exactly out of line given what all you get, and frankly, look like they’d be more than a match for the Ultrabook lineup–not to mention the MacBook Pro–and for right around the same kind of money. They’re all expected to hit stores December 7th.

So what do you guys think here? Like the looks of these new HP laptops? Or does the Envy line really not make you feel sufficiently covetous to run out and snag one? No matter what you think, we welcome your thoughts down in the comments section!
