Two Razer Blade Laptop Prototypes Reportedly Stolen From Razer Labs
Not too long back, at the tail end of August, we were introducing you to the Razer Blade, a laptop that was going to do some pretty impressive things indeed for the gaming system as we knew it. But a bit of a setback has emerged, as two of the Blade’s prototypes were reportedly stolen from the R&D labs at Razer.

A recent post out at Razer’s Facebook page detailed the theft which happened about ten days ago, on November 5th. Razer says that someone managed to enter the company’s lobby without breaking in–which they theorize meant that the suspected thieves had access to the building–and got their hands on two of the prototypes. The interesting thing is that neither of the prototypes were fully functional, which basically means the suspected thieves took two broken laptops.
Naturally, police are already reportedly in the midst of their investigation, starting with everybody at Razer who used their security cards that weekend, figuring that the person involved is likely in their number. Though admittedly, that’s really more of a starting point than an actual investigation plan, as anyone could have propped a door or the like from there, or any number of other possibilities may exist.
Some have wondered if this wasn’t just a publicity stunt, but Razer provided a whole lot of details about this in recent interviews, and newly released word suggests that the loss of the prototypes won’t delay the Razer Blade’s release beyond what it was already projected to be.
As impressive as the Blades looked, it’s good to hear that there won’t be much of a delay involved in their release, and Razer’s offered up some very nice hardware in the past, so letting them continue to release gaming hardware unimpeded is a welcome treat indeed. Though considering that the original projections put this as being released later this year, and given that they’re rapidly running out of this year, it may be a little too much promise to actually keep.
But what do you guys think here? Elaborate publicity stunt to keep people talking about the Razer? Or a genuine, sad loss that hopefully won’t set them back too far? No matter what you think, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!
