Sony Ericsson Re-Confirms Xperia Ice Cream Sandwich Update Plans

Sony Ericsson did offer an update in terms of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich a few weeks back, and as of today we have a (re)confirmation on that news. These latest details are coming by way of the official Sony Ericsson blog, which means they are not rumor and/or speculation — however we still need further clarification in terms of the timeline.

That being said, according to Sony Ericsson;

“We can today confirm that we plan to upgrade the entire 2011 Xperia portfolio to the next version of Android known as Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich. We are working on merging our current Xperia experience with the new features in Android 4.0.”

And as for the devices that fit in the 2011 Xperia portfolio — that list includes the Xperia arc and arc S, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo and neo V, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active, Xperia ray and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.

As for the when, like mentioned earlier in the post — nothing specific just yet. In fact, according to Sony Ericsson, “more detailed information regarding this upgrade, timing and global availability will be communicated” at a later time. And hey, while this news is both good and slightly annoying at the same time, there is one silver lining — at least you know whether or not the update is coming and will not end up waiting and being hopeful only to be disappointed at a later date.

Of course, we also have to remind everyone that the wait will likely continue even after Sony Ericsson says the update is ready. After all, once Sony Ericsson has it approved and ready — there is still the wait for the individual carriers to approve it for roll-out.
