HP Folio Breaks Cover Early

The HP Folio, One Of HP's Ultrabooks, Gets A Company-Sanctioned Outing Down In Australia Where It Will Hit Shelves First

Australians have a whole new reason to be happy, as the HP Folio, one of HP’s new Ultrabook models, breaks cover down under and gives us enough information about it to be interested. We get to check out its specs–though not pricing or release dates–and the early word about this one suggests that it’s going to be a pretty nice Ultrabook experience indeed.

The HP Folio is a 13.3 inch laptop with its display showing at 1366 x 768 resolution. It’s backed up by your choice of a low voltage Intel Core i3 running at 1.3 GHz, or an Intel Core i5 running at 1.6 GHz (though it will go up to 2.3 GHz when you use the Turbo Boost capability). You’ll also get four gigs of RAM (though word is that can be expanded to eight gig if you like a little more memory muscle), a 128 gig solid state drive, and an Ethernet jack for those of you who prefer your internet connection a whole lot tougher to hack by random passersby. And, on the more physical side of it, you’ll get a backlit keyboard and a rubberized base making it a whole lot easier to hold onto.

If it looks a little familiar to you, you might recognize this somewhat as being, reportedly, a Pavilion dm3 chassis with a whole lot of work done to it. But still, the chassis never matters so much as what’s inside, though a nice one never hurts, and likely HP was feeling its Pavilion that day.

The down side here is that, while we know neither pricing nor release date, the reports suggest that it’s going to hit the ground running in Australia first off, before hopefully making its way to other countries later on.

It’s going to be a pretty solid piece of hardware when it lands, I’d say, and if it can keep to that sub-thousand price point that Intel was so hot to keep Ultrabooks down to, it might make some impressive numbers when it goes into full release. There are still more than a few unanswered questions surrounding this one, though, and hopefully the answers will prove positive.

So what do you guys think here? Like the thought of the HP Folio based on what you’ve heard so far? Or does this one just look too much like the others in the field to really distinguish itself? Either way, we want to hear from you, and the comments section below is a great place to fill us in on what you think!
