BlackBerry Bold 9790 & Curve 9380 Officially Announced

RIM Unveils The Bold 9790 & Curve 9380 Smartphones, Both Expected To Arrive "Over The Coming Weeks"

It looks like RIM has ended another series of rumors and officially unveiled a pair of new BlackBerry smartphones. The devices include the BlackBerry Bold 9790 and the BlackBerry Curve 9380, both of which are expected to come available over the next couple of weeks.

More specifically, RIM has stated that both devices would “be available from various carriers around the world over the coming weeks.” Needless to say, those carrier announcements have yet to arrive which means we are left wondering about those specific dates and prices. But that aside, RIM was kind enough to offer up some images (of which can be seen above and below) along with some specs for each.

To begin with, both devices are running BlackBerry 7 OS which means an improved browsing experience, voice activated searches and support for Augmented Reality and NFC (Near Field Communications).

Moving over to the individual devices, lets kick this off with the Bold 9790. This handset features a 2.44 inch (640 x 480) touchscreen display, hardware QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad, 1GHz processor, 768MB RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot with support for cards of up to 32GB in size. In addition, the Bold 9790 will have Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, GPS, a 1230 mAh battery and a 5 megapixel camera with support for VGA quality video recording.

Next up, the Curve 9380, which arrives as the first all-touch device in the Curve family. The 9380 brings features to include a 3.2 inch (480 x 360) touchscreen display, 806MHz processor, 512MB RAM, 512MB of internal storage space, a microSD card slot and a 5 megapixel camera. In addition the Curve 9380 will have GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and a 1230 mAh battery.

That all being said, given the patterns with previously RIM smartphone releases — we suspect that we are going to begin seeing carrier announcements sooner rather than later so if you are interested in either handset, keep an eye on new posts here on TFTS.
