Verizon Galaxy Nexus Release Date Postponed to December?

New Rumor Suggests Big Red May Launch Samsung Galaxy Nexus Smartphone Long After Black Friday

Earlier today we learned that at least two carriers will launch the Galaxy Nexus in the UK in the following days, while four Canadian mobile operators plan to carry the device starting with December and January. Verizon is still quiet about Galaxy Nexus launch dates and there may be solid reason for this sort of behavior.

Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus is now said to launch only at some point in December, or well after Black Friday – the phone was expected to hit stores in the week of November 21 according to certain leaked documents. We’ve seen this sort of scenario happen before with Verizon LTE handsets this year: delays after delays without any clear explanations as to what caused them. It happened first with the HTC Thunderbolt, the first LTE Android handset in the world. Then the Droid Bionic followed suit, although in this instance the handset has been postponed by Motorola as the manufacturer wanted to further improve it. But, again, the company did not explain why it chose to delay the Bionic.

According to Droid-Life, the Galaxy Nexus may need further testing, as Verizon would like to see some of the bugs that come with the device to be dealt with ahead of an official launch. This could be all an unfounded rumor, although there’s hardly any smoke without some kind of fire. So while we’re taking this one with a huge grain of salt, chances are that the rumor is based on real issues.

But what about European Galaxy Nexus handsets that are about to be launched? Don’t they have the same bugs? Not necessarily! The American and European devices are very similar but they’re still different. The first one is a CDMA/LTE handset while the second one is a GSM/HSPA+ smartphone. In other words the underlying problem may be with the phone’s LTE performance, which would explain why Verizon may want to postpone the launch.

These are all speculations at this time, but you should still be aware of any potential Galaxy Nexus delays. We’ll be back with more details as soon as we have them, so stick around for more Galaxy Nexus news, folks!

      FUCK this always happens

    2. Major A says:

I’m usre Verizon sees at LEAST 2 major bugs: An unlocked bootloader and no Verizon bloatware hard coded into the rom. I honestly feel Verizon will not make a “splash” over this phone as it is a ho-hum item to be marketing for them.

What is great to us the consumers is just another phone sold with fewer chances to rake in more cash via it’s silly bloatware. Expect them to have hte bloatware integrated ala Internet Explorer in Windows.

    3. Big J says:

How can you delay something that never had an official release date? Also, people need to remember that Verizon chose to carry this phone and therefore during they contracted to get this hone with certain requirements, ie clean OS, no propietary software. They know what they are doing. Hopefully it gets released sooner than later.

    4. ryan says:

THERE IS NO OFFICIAL RELEASE HOW CAN IT BE DELAYED??? EVERYONE STFU!

    5. CD Skidman says:

This blog begins: “Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus is now said to launch only at some point in December….”

“Said” by whom? If this is just another rumor, who cares? It you have a source, please cite it.

    6. trex says:

Extremely thin post. Absolutely, no authority or even an explanation as to the source of the info. There isn’t even any info as to why it may be delayed. Chalk this one up as a blogger trying to grab some hits.

    7. Chris Smith says:

The source is cited in the post and linked to at the end of it where it says… wait for it… “Source”.

    8. Chris Smith says:

I believe the Source is cited, linked to appropriately, and the delay explained.

    9. WTFE... says:

THis why many are such big fans of apple. They announce their product one – two weeks ahead of a solid release date, instead of announcing them and then making their customers wait two -6 months later to get a device that by that time is already on its way to becoming outdated…

    10. kedmond says:

Matias Duarte, at “On the Verge” said that Verizon would be releasing the phone “in November”.

      damn you Verizon!!!

    12. Louis says:

Galaxy Nexus has gone thru FCC and approved with flying colors. How can they go and make changes or bug fixes after its been approved?

    13. Verizon H8r says:

      Dear Verizon,

SUCK IT! Release the damn phone and quit leaving everyone in the dark cause you’re too incompetent to set a release date and have faith in hitting it.

      Sincerely,
      Angry 10 year customer

11/21/2011 is still the day Google has planned with its contest to win a free SGN ending that day. With previous 2 Galaxy devices they were both released the day the contest ended. I would think Google has some sort of an agreement with Verizon.

    15. flockwood says:

the point of any nexus phone is that it is pure google. no bloatware will touch this phone, which is why im excited it finally came to verizon

    16. Paul says:

And when you click ‘Source’ you are brought to a page that says “sad RUMOR of the day”. There has yet to be any official date set by Samsung, Google, or Verizon. Plus, this gives them time to fix the bugs they are finding in the UK.
