Netflix Announces Content Agreement With Lionsgate UK

Netflix Will Launch In The UK & Ireland With Content From Lionsgate UK Including The Hunger Games, Reservoir Dogs & More

It was just a few weeks back when we saw Netflix announce that they were going to be rolling-out support for those in the UK and Ireland sometime in early 2012. And well, while we still would like to see something a bit more specific as to when — we now have word of a confirmed content agreement.

The details are coming by way of a Netflix issued press release, which really just means that this is not rumor and/or speculation. And in short, Netflix has announced a new multi-year agreement with Lionsgate UK.

“Netflix, Inc. and Lionsgate UK, a subsidiary of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. today announced a new multi-year licensing agreement that will make Netflix the exclusive subscription streaming service in the UK and Ireland for first-run feature films from the studio.”

Otherwise, some of the other details include that those in the UK an Ireland will be able to enjoy Netflix watch instant content on their “pay TV window on their televisions, tablets, game consoles, computers and mobile phones, for a low monthly price.” In other words, it does not look like a specific price point has been announced just yet. But on the other hand, it is nice to see that it looks like those in the UK and Ireland will be able to enjoy Netflix just about everywhere other users are able to.

In terms of content, that will include a mix of “great catalogue titles” such as “Reservoir Dogs,” “Blair Witch Project,” “3:10 to Yuma,” and “Good Night and Good Luck” as well as others such as “The Mechanic,” “Saw 3D” and the original “The Expendables.” In addition, some new content will be coming “within one year of their theatrical release” and those titles will include “The Hunger Games” and “The Expendables 2″ as well as the recently-announced remake of “Dirty Dancing.”
