Amazon Kindle Fire Newsstand to Feature Free Limited Magazine Subscriptions to GQ, Vanity Fair, Wired & Other Titles
Amazon is heavily banking on Kindle Fire users buying up content through the upcoming tablet/e-reader. The company has confirmed partnerships with major magazine publishers and will be offering three-month trial subscriptions to popular magazine titles.

Amazon has announced that the Kindle Fire Newsstand will feature over 400 full-color magazines and newspapers, and users who subscribe before March 1, 2012 will receive exclusive free three-month trial subscriptions to 17 Conde Nast magazines. These include popular titles like Wired, Vanity Fair, GQ and Glamour.
All other magazine titles come with a 14-day free subscription through the Newsstand, and Amazon is hopeful these will be more than enough to attract potential buyers of the $199 tablet into paying for full subscriptions. Russ Grandinetti, VP for Kindle Content says the company is confident that consumers will like the Kindle Fire’s interface for magazines, and in the same light praised publishers for their positive response in providing electronic editions for the Kindle Fire. “We think Kindle Fire customers will love the beautiful, intuitive reading experience we’ve built for their favorite magazines such as Us Weekly, The New Yorker, and Reader’s Digest,” he says.
Aside from Conde Nast, Amazon has also worked deals with Hearst and Meredith for the distribution of both magazines and interactive content, which includes videos, diagrams and the like.
Amazon is reportedly losing a nominal $10 per Kindle Fire sold from components and manufacturing costs, although the company is confident that this investment can easily be recouped. Analysts estimate that Amazon will get at least a $10 revenue from each Kindle Fire, net of the costs. Regardless of losses or revenues, the initial demand for Kindle Fire seems overwhelming even before actual release, prompting Amazon to increase production in the weeks leading to the mid-November release of the new Kindle line.
