Nuance Brings Dragon Express To The Mac App Store
If you are a Mac user, well more specifically a Lion user and have been looking for an alternative speech-to-text app you may want to consider this latest from Nuance Communications.

The app is called Dragon Express and it has arrived for sale by way of the Mac App Store with a $49.99 price tag. Though, we should clarify that price is noted as being “introductory” with nothing specific as to what it will increase to. Or for that matter, when the price will increase. But that aside, Dragon Express for just-shy-of-$50 sounds like a nice alternative for those who were not quite ready to jump on the $99.99 Dragon Dictate app.
In terms of the features, in short, you can talk to your computer and have it do a variety of things including searching spotlight and searching the web as well as posting to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. In addition, Dragon Express will also allow users to “email that,” “copy that” and more.
Otherwise, the app lives on your Mac, which means that you will not be dependent on internet connectivity. It also means that the app comes as a massive 1.21GB file size. And in addition to capturing text and doing the previously mentioned basic tasks, Dragon Express also has the “scratch that” support for when you make the inevitable mistake.
As for using the app, Nuance recommends a USB headset for the best results, however you can also use the app with the internal microphone. And lastly, for those curious about how the app knows when you are dictating to it as opposed to simply talking;
Credit: Source.“Dragon Express “listens” for your voice when the Dragon Express window is open and stops transcribing your voice when you click off the window. When you invoke Dragon Express again, your text will be waiting in the window until you place it within a specific application – so you never need to worry about accidentally deleting or losing your text.”
