Motorola Droid RAZR Set To Cut Back On Unremovable Apps
Bloatware, those unnecessary programs and applications you generally find yourself wishing weren’t included with your phone, will be in much shorter supply than normal on the Motorola Droid RAZR, according to reports. Apparently, much of what’s included will be user-removable, or at the very least, able to be hidden to get it out of your way.

While there will be, at last report, plenty of apps available with the Motorola Droid RAZR, the current reports suggest that the bulk of the apps in question can either be removed outright in many cases, or at the very least hidden so as to keep them from screwing up your view. Stuff on Verizon, like Blockbuster, GoToMeeting, and the V Cast apps, will be immediately able to be deleted at last report–plus there will be fewer V Cast apps in general–and even apps from other carriers can at least be shuffled around so as to be off the main screen, if not necessarily deletable.
This is said to be in response to a general, and growing, perception that mobile phone users preferred apps that could be removed from their phones in favor of tailoring their own experience, and not having it be determined by what the hardware makers and carriers wanted you to have on the phone. Sprint was actually, reportedly, one of the first to offer more stuff that could be moved or removed, and it was very well received by the customer base. Sufficiently so, in fact, that Sprint started shipping its Android phones with fewer apps.
This is a smart move, as far as I’m concerned. When you stop and consider the sheer multitudes of apps that are available in, say, the Android Market, it’s likely enough to make most people wonder why they need a whole lot of apps pre-installed on their phones in the first place. And seeing the mobile phone makers and carriers adopt that stance too is a welcome one.
For those interested, they’ll start selling tomorrow for $300 with a two year contract in the United States, and coming soon to a variety of other countries.
But what do you guys think here? Like the dialed-down approach when it comes to your apps? Or do you like a robust slate of apps from the word go? No matter what you think, we’re always glad to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!
