iOS 5.0.1 Download Available for iPhone 4S, iPad 2 & All the Other Supported Devices
A few days ago Apple released iOS 5.0.1 beta 1 and beta 2 to developers and then selected iDevice users for a quick pre-release test. And today the company released the final iOS 5.0.1 version which is now available for download.

The new software update is compatible with the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G and it can be installed immediately. Apparently the update is available via iTunes at this point, but iOS 5 users should be able to update their devices over-the-air to iOS 5.0.1 too.
By now you probably know what’s included in iOS 5.0.1, but just in case you don’t then here are the features and fixes the iOS update brings:
- Fixes bugs affecting battery life
- Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
- Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
- Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
Obviously the main fix here is related to battery life, which has been a major problem for some iPhone 4S users, although Apple never revealed how widespread the issue was, and tried to neatly hide it behind carefully crafted words that suggested only a few iPhone 4S owners had to face the issue.
A few hours ago we told you that Chronic Dev Team hacker pod2g warned iOS device owners that installing iOS 5.0.1 may break an upcoming iOS 5 untethered jailbreak tool, so if you’re interested in jailbreaking your iOS devices then you’ll have to figure out whether you’d like an untethered jailbreak or better battery life on your device. iOS 5 has already been jailbroken, and so has the iOS 5.0.1 beta, but only a tethered solution exists. iOS 5.0.1 will probably be jailbroken in the following hours, most likely also the thethered (or semi-tethered) way. As expected the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 will probably not be supported yet by any public jailbreak tools.
In case you have already upgraded your device to iOS 5.0.1 then let us know if battery life is any better, and we’re specifically interested in iPhone 4S battery performance.

Thanks for the feedback, keep us updated!
Running a 3GS iPhone and although I’ve upgraded to 5.0.1 my device’s battery life is very, very bad!! I’ve use one-third of the full charge this morning in a mere one and one- half hour time frame, while using the phone to work with my 2Do calender app ( no calls, no internet, no texting). That’s abysmally bad!
