Todd Howard Says Skyrim Will Have Infinite Quests

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Will Have An Infinite Number Of Quests Thanks To Its Radiant Quest System

The countdown to Skyrim continues with more news on what players can expect when they boot up the game for the first time on Friday. We’ve already been told that Skyrim will feature an infinite amount of dragons for your hero to slay, which is awesome in its own right, but today Skyrim director Todd Howard revealed that the game will actually have an infinite number of quests as well.

As Todd Howard told Wired, this essentially means that you can play Skyrim forever with a single character, if you so wish. Skyrim’s Radiant quest system is to thank for the unending amount of quests in the game – in addition to the scripted quests that were written into the game, the Radiant quest system will form new quests for you on the fly. For instance, an alchemist may pay you to go and collect a number of unknown flowers for documentation and experimentation purposes.

So while these quests don’t sound like they’ll be especially deep, it will certainly be nice to have something to do after completing the game’s main story arcs besides just walking around the lands of Skyrim. The Radiant quest system will also affect the different factions in the game, allowing you to pick up jobs at places like the Mages Guild and the Dark Brotherhood after you complete that faction’s story arc.

All in all, it sounds like a great system to me, but then again, with Skyrim less than two days away, I’m bound to think that everything about Skyrim is awesome and groundbreaking. I know that probably isn’t the case, but damn it, I just want to play it already!

Anyway, while I try to avoid having a nervous breakdown, head down to the comments section to tell us what you think. Do all of these extra quests sound like a good idea to you, or are you afraid they’ll all just be fetch quests that get boring quick? Post a comments and share your thoughts, and keep it tuned right here to TFTS for more information on Skyrim as we close in on its release date!

The Radiant System will help a LOT to bring more realism to the game. It will be nice to speak to an NPC and have the dialogue lead somewhere besides “rumors”. Also, from a roleplayer’s perspective, now we will have more meaning to our aimless wilderness traveling… it will help to give more purpose to what you’re doing at any given time.

Well, regardless of how well it’s done, I don’t see how it could be a bad thing. If the factions all still have their nice story arcs and there’s still a bunch of written quests, we’re essentially getting all of that in which we got in oblivion with a new system added on to provide random ones. They obviously won’t be as deep as the written ones but still a nice touch to still have a use for the factions after conquering their storyline. I love the idea of my dark brotherhood character not having to stop just because their are no more contracts ever again in all of Cyrodiil! Thumbs up from me.
