Telus Begins Rolling-Out Android 2.3 For The LG Optimus One
It looks like those sporting an LG Optimus One smartphone with Telus have an update ready and waiting. And yes, this is the long awaited update to Gingerbread.

That being said, details of the update have been posted on the Telus website which includes what one can expect to see in terms of new device features as well as instructions on how to update. And for those curious, it looks like this update is done as a manual download and install using a computer. In other words, this one is not over-the-air.
But first, according to the details posted on the Telus website, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will include the following;
- Enjoy better battery life and improved device performance.
- Back-up even more features on your Google account and remember things like Wi-Fi passwords, wallpapers, text messages and more.
And now for the general warning — while these updates are generally safe once they come available for the public — they also sometimes have issues that are only seen by those who choose to go in early. In this case, it looks like some users are seeing issues as a result of the upgrade. According to some of the comments posted on the MobileSyrup blog, some users are reporting a handset stuck in emergency mode, random app crashing after the upgrade and even poor battery life. Of course, we realize the most vocal users are often the ones with issues and that there are most likely plenty of users that have upgraded without any problems.
Anyway, those looking to move forward should prepare to perform the update by making sure they have a Windows computer handy and hitting up the LG website to download the update. Bottom line, those with an LG Optimus One in hand and looking to upgrade to Gingerbread should follow this link for the directions.
