Simpsons Arcade Game Console Port In The Works?

Ah, arcades. I’m not old enough to remember a time when arcades were all a gamer had, but I’m old enough to remember a time when arcades had all of the really cool games. Yeah, consoles like the NES and Sega Genesis were awesome, but if you wanted to see some awesome games, you went to an arcade.

Unfortunately, those days are far behind us, with arcades these days really only good for Dance Dance Revolution, but just because arcades are quickly becoming a thing of the past, it doesn’t mean we have to forget the great games we used to play in them. One of those games is the Simpsons Arcade Game. If you walked into an arcade in the early 90s, there was a good chance that they had a Simpsons Arcade cabinet on hand and ready to eat your quarters.

Fans of that classic brawler will be pleased to hear that it’s probably going to be ported to consoles soon, if a new rating from the Australian Classifications Board is to be believed. The port will be handled by Backbone Entertainment – the same studio responsible for the recent XBLA and PSN port of the classic X-Men arcade brawler – and published by Konami. It’s probably going to release on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN, but for the moment, Konami isn’t talking about release dates or platforms just yet.

It would certainly be cool to see the Simpsons Arcade Game get a re-release, but I’m thinking that I might be looking at this whole thing through rose colored glasses – likely what will happen is that it will be released on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network and we’ll realize that it isn’t quite as good as we remember it. Oh well, at least it will be good for a blast from the past!
