Skyrim Getting Patch On Day One, New Trailer Now

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Getting Day One Patch Across All Platforms, Bethesda Releases New Skyrim Trailer

Oh my god. It’s almost here. Skyrim launches in just three short days, and I’ve been looking forward to the next entry in the Elder Scrolls series for so long that it seems almost surreal. It’s been five long years since The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion launched, and even though that wait is a very long time for someone who loved Oblivion, it seems that Skyrim could have used even more time before launching.

That’s because Bethesda announced today that Skyrim will be getting a day one patch across all platforms, fixing a number of stability and quest progression issues that the studio couldn’t manage to fix before the game went gold. I know there’s a lot of people out there who call foul on day one patches, saying things like “back in the days of cartridges and 16-bit gaming, there were no day one patches and you got a complete product out of the box,” but I’m not buying it.

True, there were no day one patches back in those days, but that doesn’t mean that all of the bugs were fixed by the time the game shipped. Games back in those days suffered from bugs just as today’s games do, the only difference is that a developers now can go back in and deliver a patch after the game has launched, whereas buggy games remained buggy back in the 80s and 90s. Those who say that developers and publishers shipped bug-free or mostly bug-free games back in those days are simply looking at the past through rose colored glasses.

Regardless of how you feel about day one patches, Skyrim is getting one, and it’ll be waiting for you when you pop that disc in the tray of your console or finish installing Skyrim on your PC. So, that being said, who’s up for a new Skyrim trailer? With just three days left to go, we’re in the home stretch and we need everything we can get to help tide us over during these last few anticipation-filled days.

So go ahead and watch the trailer below, and then head down to the comments section to tell us what you think of the news of a day one patch – are you infuriated, or could you not care less?

The voice-overs are so much more convincing in Oblivion. It actually feels like real people are talking.

No problem at least they can provide us with that service.

just amazing game cant wait, you don’t eval have to play, you already know its going to be the best game of all time

    5. 残念すぎ says:

wow this sucks. I live in Japan and couldnt wait for the december release so preordered the world version of the game on amazon. i can only see two scenarios unfolding.

one: i get the game around november 11 but since we`re supposed to get it in december, there will be no patch to download on our playstation network.
two: the patch gets released in december but it will be for the japanese version so it won`t be compatible with the one that i preordered. fml

    6. Colin says:

At least they are giving a patch, it’s better than them keeping their pride and releasing a worse version of a game that deserves better

    7. I WANT SKYRIM NOW!!!!! says:

I wish i hadn’t clicked play…….this just makes the wait even more agonizing

    8. JimBoSS says:

I just hope this will be as epic on PC as oblivion was.
with today’s games being dumbed down for console its a real concern. case in point.. RAGE. Fingers crossed hey?

      Anders is a stinky noob!

    10. skyrim bri says:

lets be honest people, bethesda had a huge task ahead of them and a ‘no compromise’ deadline,at least they care enough to give us a day 1 patch that will only serve to improve the experience.its like they have decorated your house and then still came round a day after the job was finnished to sweep up and make sure they got the place spotless and tidy for you :)

    11. FeatureCreeep says:

You won’t see a game as complex as Skyrim on a cartridge either so that comparison wouldn’t make any since anyway. Games are infinity more complicated than they were in the cartridge days.

      yoyoyoy skyrim yoyoyoy

    13. Opinunated says:

I’d like to say that having a patches as Bethesda has stated they will do is a good thing, it is following up a game an taking care of it, It’s good in my opinion an while I grew up in the age of Atari, I’m glad again that a officially favorite game now gets chased up from the get go instead of being left like Oblivion semi what. They can now get ontop of things GOD DAMMIT I’M EXCITED!

    14. skyrim bri says:

and yea this game is going to be special!my first 360 game was oblivion and it totally sucked me in and blew my tiny mind lol ive never had an experience with a game since that compared to oblivion.walking in any direction and finding crazy quests or little stories that kept me busy for months on end.now we get to do it again with great graphics, improved gameplay and more detailed immersion!i will take bugs happily if it means i get to enjoy another game as much as oblivion

    15. stupid says:

ah is the patch on the disc itself because i dont have xbox live or internet (this is someone else pc)

    16. Bobbly says:

If the world version is compatible with your playstation I think you will still be able to get the patch. If not just download it illegally after you buy it. There will be a boot leg patched version up that you can use for PC, and it won’t be stealing since you’ve already paid.

    17. Smog says:

I don’t understand what is up with that myth. Games aren’t being dumbed down. Major PC games are just made less frequently so console games get converted in order to keep the PC Game market flowing. If you really felt like it was beig dumbed down you wouldn’t buy it. You just want a reason to complain.

    18. conor845 says:

Of course it’s not already on the disk. In this day and age you’ve got to have the internet to get the best out of pc games.

    19. Stank says:

      WooLooLOO

    20. bob says:

You don’t have internet? but you posted this? hmm weird

    21. Utah Jewel says:

Super stoked for 11/11/11 SKYRIM’ with the patch do I need xbox live membership or can I just be on-line’ got my xbox plugged into the net’ but don’t play on-line so I don’t have gold membership’ will I get the patch?

    22. Dovahkiin says:

You should of acted… they’re already here.

    23. Kaltorag says:

Seriously i love Day one patches, it means they care about those willing to buy in and not just leave the bugs there for us to stuble across

    24. Todd Howard is my hero says:

My life will have meaning in 3 days. I don’t mind patches in the least and I beg forgiveness for those foolish enough to question the decisions of TES designers. BEST GAME SERIES EVER! Morrowind is my all time favorite… till Friday.

    25. S says:

I live in Japan too and you should be fine as far as the patch goes. It should be a universal release. Of course I don’t play on the PoS3 so I can’t guarantee that.

The no internet problem can be solved fairly easily by just downloading the patch off the website, sticking it on a flash drive and moving it over to your HD. Microsoft/Bethesda etc. should provide a solution for non-internet peeps.

Even though I won’t be buying the game for a little bit yet, I’m ultra excited. I’ve yet to finish an ES game as I usually get bored/stall out after about 80 hours, but I’m hoping this one changes all that. I bought a brand new beast of a gaming laptop in part to play the hell out of this game.

    26. Archimedes1 says:

Agreed – glad to see the game support out there – even if it is day 1. Wait…its still negative days. I can’t WAIT> icon is staring at me…

    27. SKC says:

Well if there is a patch its good we get it on the day look at the graphics and the amount of work that has gone into skyrim no wonder they need a patch for it to support the gameplay on xbox and pc and i dont think playstion should even be eligable to play it lmao

    28. Ark11 says:

The day one patch doesn’t bother me at all. I’d rather wait a little bit extra to get a bug-free game than get a game sooner that is riddled with bugs.

    29. Eric Abent says:

It does indeed! That’ll make it all the more immersive. Goodbye girlfriend…

    30. Eric Abent says:

I agree. I would much rather have a day one patch than have Skyrim delayed for bug fixes. It’s had that 11/11/11 release date since it was announced last year, and it’s nice to see a developer stick to its release date, even if it means a day one patch.

    31. Eric Abent says:

Just keep clicking play. Over and over and over again.

    32. Breaddrink says:

To answer the question specifically as asked, I don’t really have a problem with day one patches.

I do however fear that it allows the release of games that are so flawed, that game makers can release a bullet riddled turd of a product with the half baked notion that they can fix it later on…or not.
If they do, that’s great…But was NV ever really fixed? It didn’t feel that way to me. By the end of my time with it (on bug fix 3 or 4 or so) I couldn’t tell if I’d screwed up quests or it was simply yet another bug and something wasn’t registering.

You can only deliver so many disappointments with a game before the experience is ruined and the trust is gone, therefore it’s important that the version that you first experience is as solid as possible.

Perhaps Bethesda isn’t worried and will continue to release lemons that they will fix one day, but because of NV, I will not be buying this on day one and will read up on real people’s experiences with it, not simply reviews.

Those guys really have to make amends this time.

    33. Eric Abent says:

Bethesda didn’t make New Vegas though, Obsidian did. I think I would take a risk on Skyrim and buy it on day one. Bethesda is using a new engine and they’ve promised that they’re doing more testing this time around. I think a lot of the problems you experienced on day one with games like New Vegas, Fallout 3, and Oblivion had to do with the really crappy Gamebryo engine. It’s worth a shot at least… wait until after your first experience with the Creation engine before you decide that Bethesda needs to make amends with you.

    34. The Watcher says:

bob… conor clearly says that it’s someone else pc.. not weird at all then is it !

    35. Hyyr says:

When Skyrim was first announced, I was somewhat concerned over that pretty 11-11-11 date. At the time, it was too far in the future to assure me that such a massive project as Skyrim would indeed be finished & ready by that date. At the same time, Elder Scrolls is Bethesda’s bread-and-butter franchise, so I don’t see them screwing it up. I just hope the game doesn’t consistently crash like the Fallout games and Oblivion. If a day one patch is needed, then by all means bring it on.

    36. Miryks says:

Personally, day one patch is fine by me. I am just glad that Bethesda is putting forth the effort to ensure the game works properly. By the way I was also wandering about the 360 thing. Do you need XBox Live? Or just an active internet connection?

    37. Rabbit says:

I wonder if the day one patch isn’t in part intentional and just clever copy protection. (Bethesda)”Hey our game will get stolen we will have leaks, do we have to let thieves get the whole thing?” The game Arena wouldn’t let you out of the first dungeon without answering a question that referenced the manual. I’m sure that fixes to bugs are needed and unforeseen things have a way of popping up, but it’s sort of clever if they did it on purpose.

    38. Master Of Elder Scrolls says:

I love the Elder Scrolls and if Bethesda thinks it needs to be done than i trust them. They have never done us wrong and for any of us to doubt them is just fucked up. Lets here it for the best desighners in the buisness. BETHESDA

    39. Master Of Elder Scrolls says:

All Hail Bethesda Hip Hip Hooray. For their the best damn Designers, For their the best damn designers, for their the best damn designerrrrrrrrs, to ever make a game. Woooooooooooooooooooo SKYRIM is ours for the taking tomorrow……………

    40. Master Of Elder Scrolls says:

Oh yeah and for the guy who said he has internet but no gold it will still give you the patch…… Gotta love that huh

    41. tonic says:

      got it today, good times
cant install on my pc because its not out yet (thanks steam), bad times

do i stay up till midnight and sack of work in the morning HELL YER
