Siri Able To Control Macs With An Add-on App

Siri Shown To Work With Your Mac Thanks To iTeleport & A Little Engineering, Said To Handle Things Nicely

We’ve been following a lot of what Siri’s been up to these days, and Siri certainly does get around. But one of the biggest things that many have wondered about Siri is, when is she going to make the jump to other devices besides the iPhone 4S? We’ve seen her get ported, after a fashion, and some have even thought they can make it work. But now, Siri has appeared on full Macs, thanks to a little help from iTeleport and an end run around the system.

If you want to get in on this, the procedure isn’t too rough but will take a bit of doing. See, you’re not going to be using Siri on your Mac directly, but rather, you’ll be using Siri on your iPhone 4S, which you will then use to issue commands to your Mac. First, you’ll need to either get or update the iTeleport VNC app, which just got updated not too long ago to version 5.2. You’ll then fire up your Mac and iPhone 4S like normal and start Siri’s dictation. Then, instruct Siri to launch iTunes, then launch Evernote, or any other app you want running on your Mac.

This in turn will let Siri pass on your instructions to iTeleport, which will then carry out your directives as long as it can find the app in question installed on your Mac in the first place. Word is this actually does the job pretty nicely indeed, though you will need to shell out $19.99 for your copy of iTeleport, unless you’ve already done so. It’s an interesting idea, sure enough, and seeing how many people have already been looking to or just wondering about getting Siri on other devices, it’s not at all surprising to see someone try something like this.

But what do you guys think here? The idea of a voice controlled computer was compelling back in the days of Star Trek, so why would they be any less compelling to us in the post-Enterprise era? Will Apple be in a hurry to get Siri onto other devices when they can make sure you buy an iPhone 4S to get in on Siri first, then allow the iPhone 4S to serve as a kind of remote control system for other devices instead? No matter what you think about this one, we definitely want to hear from you, so hit the comments section and tell us what you think!
